The Collins Canal, completed in 1912, is the oldest surviving manmade structure in Miami Beach and played a key role in the city’s early development as an oceanfront resort. The construction of the canal and Collins Bridge connected Miami Beach to mainland Miami, sparking the area’s growth.

The Collins Waterfront Architectural District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, features 110 buildings from the 1940s to 1960s, with prominent Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Miami Modern styles. Notable structures include the Cadillac Hotel, Ocean Spray Hotel, and Casa Faena, along with two bridges. The district captures the essence of Miami Beach’s mid-century resort architecture.
