Crystal River Kayaking Essentials: What to Pack for Your Clear Kayak Adventure

Hey everyone, it’s Austin here from Get Up and Go Kayaking – Crystal River. If you’re gearing up for one of our clear kayak tours, first off – awesome choice! Crystal River’s springs & wildlife are something special, especially when you’re gliding over manatees or crystal clear springs. But hey, I get it: Packing for a kayak trip can feel a bit tricky if you’re new to this. Don’t sweat it! We’ve got all the main gear covered so you can focus on the fun. Over the years, I’ve seen what makes a tour go smoothly (and what folks forget that turns into a funny story later). So, here’s my no-BS guide to the essentials. I’ll break down what you should bring and what we provide, based on real paddles out there with guests just like you.

We encourage you to bring these items – trust me, they’ve saved the day more times than I can count:

  • Water (preferably in a reusable bottle!): Hydration is key out on the water, especially under that Florida sun. I always tell folks to sip often—nothing worse than feeling parched mid-paddle. Pro tip: Freeze it halfway the night before for ice-cold sips all tour long.
  • Swimsuit or clothes you don’t mind getting wet: The springs are tempting for a dip, and splashes happen. Quick-dry stuff is gold—I’ve had guests in jeans who ended up laughing about it, but comfy is better.
  • Sunglasses/hat: Glare off the water can be brutal. Polarized sunnies are my go-to—they cut through the surface so you spot more wildlife. A hat keeps the sun off your neck; bonus if it’s got a strap so it doesn’t fly away on a breezy day.
  • Shoes that can get wet and slip off easy: Flip-flops or water shoes work best—no one wants soggy sneakers. We wade in sometimes, so something secure but quick to remove is clutch.
  • Towel for after the trip: Dry off post-swim or wipe down—nothing fancy, just packable. I’ve forgotten mine a time or two and regretted it!
  • Any extra gear you’d like!: GoPro for underwater shots? Snacks? Sure, but remember: Less stuff means more visibility through that clear bottom—keeps the magic alive!

Now, what we hook you up with—no need to worry about hauling this:

  • Dry bags for your stuff: Waterproof and secure—toss in your phone, keys, whatever. We’ve got sizes for everything, so your valuables stay bone-dry.
  • Safety gear like life jackets and whistles: Mandatory and comfy, fitted for all sizes. Safety’s non-negotiable out here, and we’ve got you covered.
  • Clear kayak with seats and paddles: Our see-through beauties are stable, comfy, and ready to roll—no setup hassles.
  • A friendly, knowledgeable tour guide: That’s us! We’ll share stories, spot wildlife, and make sure you have a blast. (Fun fact: I’ve been paddling these waters for years and still get excited every time.)
  • Memories that’ll last a lifetime!: Okay, that’s cheesy, but true—every tour’s got those “wow” moments you can’t plan.

All this info (and more, like waiver details and what to expect) gets sent your way after booking. Head over to our site to check out all the tour options—we’ve got everything from private paddles to family-friendly outings. If you’re reading this in fall 2025, snag a spot quick before manatee season crowds hit!
